How to install
PhishCatch isn't on the Chrome Web Store yet, so you add it by hand. It takes about a minute.
-
1
Download and unzip
Download the zip below, then extract it. Keep the extracted folder somewhere permanent, because Chrome reads the extension from it.
-
2
Open the extensions page
Paste this into a new Chrome tab's address bar.
chrome://extensions -
3
Turn on Developer mode
It's the toggle in the top-right corner of the extensions page.
-
4
Click “Load unpacked”
Select the extracted folder, the one that directly contains the manifest.json file.
-
5
Visit any website
A red shield button appears on the right edge of the page. Click it to open the PhishCatch panel and see the risk score.
PhishCatch Early Access V1.0
Free · Chrome · Unpacked extension (zip)
Good to know
Early access
Chrome may show a developer-mode notice each time it starts. That's expected for extensions installed this way.
Tested in Chrome
Other Chromium browsers may work, but Google Chrome is the one we've tested.
What it sends
Checks and reports use the website's domain name only, never the page contents, your real passwords or the full address. No account is needed to use the extension.
Stuck?
Common problems
“Manifest file is missing”
You picked the wrong folder. Open the unzipped folder and select the one that has manifest.json directly inside it.
No shield button on a page
Refresh the page after installing. Pages that were already open don't get the extension until they reload.
Extension vanished
If you moved or deleted the folder, Chrome loses it. Put the folder back, or load it again with “Load unpacked”.
