Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to use the extension?

No. The extension works as soon as it is installed. An account is only needed to use the website's dashboard.

What information does PhishCatch send?

Only the website's domain name, plus the risk score and the reasons for it when a site is reported. It never sends page contents, your real passwords or the full web address.

A safe website was flagged. What do I do?

Click “Proceed anyway” on the warning page to continue, or switch off Auto Block in the sidebar. Then let us know using the email below, with the website's domain, so we can look into it.

How do phishing sites get added to the shared list?

When PhishCatch blocks a site, it sends a report to a review queue. An admin checks each report, and only approved sites appear on the dashboard and are recognised by every user.

Can I turn off parts of PhishCatch?

Yes. Open the shield button on any page and use the switches under Protection Modules to turn heuristic detection, canary injection, the credential monitor or auto block on and off.

The shield button doesn't appear.

Refresh the page. If it is still missing, open chrome://extensions, check PhishCatch is switched on, and click its reload icon.

How do I uninstall it?

Open chrome://extensions, find PhishCatch and click Remove. You can delete the unzipped folder afterwards.
